About Iden
Iden is located in the county of East Sussex, yet is just a few hundred yards from the border with Kent.
We have a wonderful village community of approximately 400 residents. We have our village pub The Bell at Iden, which serves local real ales and homemade food, All Saints Church, a local hairdresser, Riding School, and various holiday lets. Iden Village stores provides us with everything from dry cleaning to lottery tickets, porridge to wrapping paper, and not forgetting the Post Office.
What is so special about IDEN?
In the year 2000 Rod Stuart (our village historian) compiled a Chronicle of Iden as a ‘snapshot’ of a Domesday village. He didn’t set out to rival the original Domesday Book, but by the time it was printed, we had a comprehensive picture of everything from birds to occupations to the electoral roll. We also had a wealth of individual recollections about growing up before and during the Second World War, and why villagers enjoy living here.
Capturing the flavour of the Chronicle, residents reported that Iden… has a feel of undeveloped timelessness…a sense of history …it nestles amid hedges and furrow fields …near enough to the sea to enjoy the sea air …farmers relaxed about signed footpaths, and welcome walkers …no street lights and so we can enjoy a night sky.
